Please Welcome Dr. Lefter Baklas to HVD

I was born in New Rochelle, NY on June 24th, 1955 to Greek immigrants.  I attended undergraduate school at Stony-Brook University and dental school at Tufts University in Boston and graduated in 1981.  After dental school I did a three year tour with the National Health Service Corp, at first working on the Eagle Butte Dental Reservation in South Dakota.  This experience was both rewarding and an eye opener to a lifestyle and conditions that most people are unaware of.  I finished my tour of duty at the Westside Public Health Hospital in Denver after receiving an Outstanding Service Award and Citation for my work on the Indian reservation.

I moved to Texas and had a private practice in Alvin and having a love for the Hill Country, sold my practice there and moved to New Braunfels.  presently I have an office in San Antonio.  I retired from the reserves after 20 years, having seen duty in Desert Storm and acting as Chief of Dental Services for the 433rd Air Force Reserve for 4 years, including several humanitarian missions where I was again recognized for my accomplishments and awarded several citations.

While in Alvin, I was a member of the Rotary Club and spearheaded the first Shots Across Texas program for immunizing underprivileged children and was awarded the Rotarian of the Year award and the Paul Harris award.

I do have a private life too, and am raising twin 12 year old boys and they keep me busy from zip-lining, bowling, etc...  I enjoy cooking and love all kinds of food, but mostly oriental cuisine and Greek food, go figure.  My other hobbies include painting, scuba diving, gardening and a plethora of other activities.
